Would this be able to pick up ATC (A good scanner?)?

Not sure how you are getting 100 miles unless you have an external antenna that is high in the air! VHF is very line of sight. Any scanner that receives the aircraft ranges can get ATC and aircraft transmissions as long as the antenna can "see" both ends.
