If my wedding photographer brings an assistant, and they were not in the contract, should I get those pictures?

My wedding photographer brought an assistant, who was not listed in the contract. We had no prior knowledge of them coming, but on my wedding day they were there also taking pictures alongside my photographer. Now my photographer says their assistant won't give them the pictures. Isn't that part of the contract, since the main photographer brought them along?
