How many technology years is the US goverment ahead of normal society? Like 30 years?

You got good answers. Generally the government is not ahead, but I suppose there are some exceptions. Secrete and top secret projects have lots of problems and often fall behind the private and academic sector. Costs are very high. Often the results work poorly and unreliably. Neil
